Companies often feel that the only way to improve a risky job is to fully automate it, remove it, or change the job completely. However, oftentimes only a small portion of the job is causing the problem. The quantitative methods that we use to assess risk in the workplace allow us to identify the root cause of risk within a specific job. With this information, we can help companies address the problem in the most cost-effictive manner.
One of the tools that we use to assess risk is the Industrial Lumbar Motion Monitor (LMM). This device measures dynamic 3D motion characteristics of workers while they perform their job. This information can then be compared to large databases of both risky and safe jobs to determine exactly where the problem is.
